Our dentists are seeing more and more cavities and problems in children’s teeth. Better prevention than cure, we always say. At Nova Dentists, we recommend that children as young as two years old have regular checkups. Especially since the milk teeth also form the basis for the adult teeth, proper care is very important. A dental visit can be quite exciting for a child. At Nova Dentists, our dentists are all about making your son or daughter feel at ease. At our practice, we make it a party together so that the dental checkup next time becomes something to look forward to.

How can you yourself put your child at ease before visiting our dental office?

Do you not like going to the dentist yourself? Unintentionally, you may transfer your own fear of the dentist to your child. Therefore, we have listed some tips for you to make the dental visit less exciting (for both of you):

Explain that you are going to the dentist because the lovely dentist wants to take a look at your child’s teeth
Read a book together beforehand or watch a movie about visiting the dentist. We have another fun recommendation for you. Watch together the video of Peppa Pig, episode going to the dentist for the first time
Stay calm yourself before and during the dental visit
Bring your child’s favorite stuffed animal or toy to make it feel extra familiar
If you have your own appointment, you may also bring your child so that your child can already get used to the room, lights and all the equipment

Tips for taking good care of baby teeth

Brush teeth with your child twice a day with special children’s toothpaste. Let your son or daughter brush his or her teeth himself or herself and then brush well afterward.

While brushing, use the 3 B’s: Inside, Outside and Top. Teach the 3 B’s to your child as well, because young learned is old done.

Try to limit the intake of sugar, such as from packaged drinks, candy, cookies and cakes, as much as possible. Sugars can cause caries.

Provide up to 7 eating and drinking occasions in a day. Between meals, the teeth need time to recover, or cavities will develop more quickly. Water, of course, can be drunk throughout the day.

And … visit our dear dentists regularly with your child for a dental checkup. This allows us to quickly identify and correct potential problems or complaints.
